SAFE Secretariat
The permanent Secretariat of the Federation is located in the city of Islamabad, Pakistan. The Secretariat is responsible for managing all affairs of the Federation. The SAFE Secretariat serves as the central coordination office for the performance of all activities of the Federation, and is responsible for performing all the functions related to the achievement of SAFE objectives, implementation of all the policies of the Federation and the Executive Committee, and for facilitating the exchange of information amongst the Members, and for other matters that may be assigned to it by the Executive Committee. The SAFE Secretariat also has the authority to approach any donor agency for undertaking projects in line with SAFE's objectives.

The Secretariat is run by an independently appointed Secretary General who is the authorised representative of the Federation for all SAFE Members, regional regulators, governmental/non-governmental entities and other international bodies/forums for all matters related to the affairs of the Federation/Secretariat. Mr. Aftab is presently serving as the Managing Director/CEO of the Lahore Stock Exchange (G) Limited. Before joining LSE, Mr. Aftab had been performing as the regular head of the South Asian Federation of Exchanges as its Secretary General-a role that he still continues to perform. Besides, Mr. Aftab has also served as a professional consultant for various projects related to capital markets, infrastructure/corporate finance, privatization and professional training etc. He has also served on many committees dealing with the matters related to corporate governance and investor protection.

During the earlier capital market assignment, Mr. Aftab served as the Managing Director/CEO of Islamabad Stock Exchange, Pakistan for seven years. Mr. Aftab has also been involved with the Board level work at the Institute of Capital Markets, Pakistan Mercantile Exchange (ex NCEL), National Clearing & Settlement Company, and the renowned credit rating agency JCR-VIS of Pakistan. Mr. Aftab has about 24 years of experience in a variety of leadership positions in the logistics, supply chain, strategic, budgeting, financial, project management roles both in the military and corporate environments.

Mr. Aftab holds an MBA degree from Nicholls State University, Thibodaux (LA) USA, and is also a graduate of the Executive Management Program from the Stanford University, USA.

Ms. Farzin Khan is the Deputy Secretary General of South Asian Federation of Exchanges (SAFE) since January 2010. Ms. Farzin was awarded a Masters Degree in Financial Management from University of Bedfordshire Business School, UK in 2004. She has worked as Deputy Secretary General SAFE for a year in 2007 as well. Starting as an internee in The First Women Bank back in 2001, she has gained a variety of professional experiences, from Associate Relationship Manager in Habib Bank Limited Islamabad to Assistant Director in Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Islamabad. Among other things, she has participated in various projects and training courses relevant to capital markets.
