Secretary General
Mr. Aftab has been the Secretary General of the South Asian Federation of Exchanges (SAFE)-a SAARC recognized body and an affiliate of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE), since 2005. SAFE represents 23 entities comprising of various stock & commodity exchanges and depository & clearing institutions from both the SAARC and non SAARC countries. Besides, Mr. Aftab is also serving as a Board (working committee) member of the technical committee for the OIC Countries Stock Exchanges Forum.
During the most recent assignment, Mr. Aftab served as the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Islamabad Stock Exchange, Pakistan. During this assignment, Mr. Aftab performed the top leadership role related to the capital market operations, regulatory, compliance and enforcement functions besides exercising overall oversight responsibility over the equity brokerage houses, dealers, investment banks & listed corporate sector.
Mr. Aftab has been involved with the Board level work related to the system designing & implementation of the domestic nationwide structure for the Securities Clearing and Settlement Company, as well as for the regulatory and product development related work at the Board level for the operations of the only commodity exchange in Pakistan. In the recent past, Mr. Aftab has also served on the Board of Directors of other capital market institutions in Pakistan such as M/s JCR-VIS-a leading independent corporate credit rating agency in Pakistan and the Institute of Capital Markets.
Mr. Aftab has also been instrumental in the implementation of a joint trading platform between two of the three stock exchanges in his native country, which required in depth regulatory synchronization, technology deployment and trading software modernization. From the platform of SAFE, he has been instrumental in the launch of the first ever regional index with the help of Dow Jones Indexes, besides having worked on the harmonization of trading/listing standards for all the jurisdictions of the region, and the launch of South Asian Mutual Fund with the help of leading investment banks/asset management companies. He has also worked on an advisory/consulting assignment with Capital Market Development Authority of Maldives relating to the privatization of the Maldives Stock Exchange. Besides, he has also been involved with the technology replacement/acquisition related assignments at various stock exchanges of the region.
Mr. Aftab holds an MBA degree from Nicholls State University, Thibodaux (LA), USA, and has also attended Executive Management Program at the Stanford University, USA. He has also attended many other securities market related programs both at home and abroad.

Ms. Farzin Khan is the Deputy Secretary General of South Asian Federation of Exchanges (SAFE) since January 2010. Ms. Farzin was awarded a Masters Degree in Financial Management from University of Bedfordshire Business School, UK in 2004. She has worked as Deputy Secretary General SAFE for a year in 2007 as well. Starting as an internee in The First Women Bank back in 2001, she has gained a variety of professional experiences, from Associate Relationship Manager in Habib Bank Limited Islamabad to Assistant Director in Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Islamabad. Among other things, she has participated in various projects and training courses relevant to capital markets.

Mr. Muddassar Alam was inducted as a Manager IT and Administration in December 2009 with the SAFE Secretariat. His professional career includes the post of Network Administrator in Islamabad Stock Exchange. Mr. Alam's area of responsibility includes Management of the IT as well as the Administration Department. He holds a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science with a major in Networks.
