South Asia is a region of rapid growth and development. South Asia is also home to one of
the fast growing regional financial markets, India. The rapid growth of economy and finance in India, the potential of higher growth in Pakistan, the peace dividend that Sri Lanka is likely to experience, the inclusive growth approach of Bangladesh, prospects for growth in Nepal, Maldives and Bhutan, etc., make the South Asian region a great prospect and promise for international investing community. South Asia has also close access to the regional financial centres like Mauritius and the UAE, both of which are also members of SAFE, thus giving an opportunity to harness each other’s potential. The South Asia region, led by India, attracted nearly US$20bn in portfolio flows into stock markets, making it one of the most favoured destinations in emerging markets. With global and domestic policy in the region working towards greater harmony and stability, the South Asia region is expected to further accelerate its growth of financial markets as also engage a larger percent of the population in financial market activity. The outcome of such a development will be of great significance for the regional financial markets; in terms of newer institutions and instruments, policy and regulations governing their growth and development, processes and procedures for conducting operations in an orderly manner and above all, making financial markets safer and secure. It is in this background that the third South Asian Capital Markets Conference is being designed with the theme ‘Expanding Asset Classes: South Asia.’ The regional conference will be attended by a galaxy of CEOs and heads of various corporates, banks, and financial institutions in South Asia and other regions, with technical sessions engaging in cutting-edge discussions on critical aspects of deepening of the South Asian Financial Markets. This is a unique opportunity for every professional in finance to participate. We have great pleasure in inviting you to the conference and nominate officers of your esteemed institution.
